GIF is so 2012! Somehow this old-school-animation-format is back again on the internet universe; boosted by sites like Tumblr and Reddit. Most of the popular GIFs that are spread on internet range from GIFs of celebrities (like the GIF of Tina Fey "trolling" Amy Poehler on the 69th Golden Globe Awards or the GIF of Snoop Dog dancing his "Drop It Like It's Hot" in Leonardo Da Vinci's "The Last Supper" painting) to the famous internet meme GIF of "Nyan Cat". All those GIFs share one characteristic in common: funny!
It is actually not too difficult to make GIF animations; you can either use Adobe Photoshop or some GIFs creator programs. Nowadays, good news, you can even make GIFs with your smart phones! GifBoom app for example!
GifBoom app offers you an easy way to create GIFs from your smart phones. You can either take photos and directly create animated-GIFs out of it, or convert the funny videos that you took into GIF format. This application also has a community, where you can share your new-made-GIF with others who have the application. Just like Instagram, let's say. I recently tried it and now I am madly in love with making GIFs pictures. Too bad I cannot share them because Facebook does not support GIF format pictures!
Anyway, you can check out more GIFs on the youtube-to-GIF
