If I Die – a funny app for you to say your last words
08/01/2012 -
Qin Hu
In the social media booming generation, many companies have made their fortune developing apps. I have introduced many interesting and successful apps before on SearchCowboys, and today I have found another one. It has a “scary” name called If I Die. It is a Facebook app which makes sure that your last words and final messages can be posted to your friends years after you passed away. Yep, your Facebook profiles will not die in the same way you do.

It is not new that more and more students prefer to interact via mobile devices and social media sites rather than using traditional forms of communication such as e-mail.
However, according to Doane, the co-founder of ConnectYar, it is clear that faculty members are not always keen on adopting new technologies and many do not want to intrude upon the personal space of students on social networking sites.

JACKIE Magazine, the Dutch glossy magazine, became the hottest topic a couple of days ago for its article in issue 49 page 45, which referred to the singer Rihanna as “de ultieme niggabitch” (the ultimate nigga bitch). This choice of inappropriate words (read: “racist slur”) had naturally caused angry and in some cases hateful reactions through social media and blogs, including Rihanna herself.

Some people spend their time customizing their Facebook; because they want to look professional for future employers, or just because they want to be perceived as cool and hip. How Airlines Use Social Media to Cope with Flight Disruption

We are entering December! The temperature is going down and soon most of you will be in your hometown, celebrating Christmas with the family; or maybe taking a break from cold winter by heading to a tropical island. For most airlines, December is the month to generate great revenue opportunities, but also a month with the highest level of stress due to weather disruptions, delays, snows, ice, etc. How do KLM, AirAsia, and Quantas use social media to cope with the flight disruptions?

Google +1 and Google Like
19/05/2011 -
Vitto Christaldi
About two months ago, Google launched Google +1, a social sharing button from Google. Yes, everyone who is actively on Facebook knows how it works; it has basically the same concept as “Like button” on Facebook: you like it, you recommend it, and the words are spread. Social sharing has been proven to have a big role on determining page ranking and I guess that is why Google decided to adapt this idea. Yet, Google +1 is still an experiment and it is only available for a small percentage of users of Google.com (for the users of Gmail, Google Reader and Google Buzz).

Digital Media in Indonesia

A couple of weeks ago, I received a mail from a group of students from The Singapore Management University about their interest to interview me on social media in Indonesia. Later I found out that they are working on a project to build a wiki-site about “Digital Media in Asia”; and their focus is “Social Media in Indonesia”. Indonesia's Largest Community: Kaskus
09/03/2011 -
Vitto Christaldi
Kaskus comes from the abbreviation of "Kasak Kusuk” (means “chit-chat”), founded by Andrew Darwis and two other Indonesian students on November 6th, 2000, when they were still studying in Seattle. Since then, it has become the largest internet community forum in Indonesia. In 2006, Kaskus had to change its domain from .com to .us because a computer virus called “Brontok” was attacking Indonesian sites. So if you think it is an American site, it is not!

How to improve Baidu quality score
16/02/2011 -
Kelly Ge
Baidu gives each keyword in campaigns a quality score. The quality score does not have much impact on the biding price, effectiveness of ads and ROI, but mostly decides where your ads can be shown. Keywords with higher quality score will most likely appear on the left side, while a low quality score can only make ads appear on the right side.

Foursquare vs Koprol
14/02/2011 -
Vitto Christaldi
The journey of the online market in Indonesia continues. Before I start comparing both social networks, I will introduce you to Yahoo! Koprol, the local location-based social network from Indonesia. It started with the name Koprol (means “somersault” in Bahasa Indonesia and Dutch) in 2008, founded by three young Indonesian entrepreneurs: Fajar Budiprasetyo, Satya Witoelar, and Daniel Armanto. It was the fastest local social network in Indonesia and Yahoo! was interested to do acquisition with Koprol. In May 2010, Koprol was acquired and officially called Yahoo! Koprol.

Conversion Conference London

Menno Flikkema
I was delighted to attend the first Conversion Conference at the beginning of this month in London. Led by Tim Ash as chair, it was a conference dedicated to how to make more money with your website by increasing conversion. The word conversion to me means simply getting people to do what you want them to do on your website. What surprised me was the depth in which this simple notion was covered in the two days of conversion conference.

General introduction on Baidu products

As mentioned before Baidu has some products that are similar to what Google offers but it also has several that are unique. Baidu is expanding its product offering and many new products can not be managed from the general customer account. But no matter how many products it has, paid search and display network are still the main focus and cash cow for Baidu.

How good is your multicultural awareness?
23/11/2008 -
Mark Farragher
A couple of months ago I attended SES San Jose and Google was kind enough to throw us all a party. In the bus on our way to the Googleplex I sat next to a german SEO and we talked about how difficult it is to unlock the European SEO market, and how European agencies should deal with this challenge. We agreed that it all boils down to how you handle cultural and linguistic differences; your SEO strategy needs to cover them right from the start.

SEO: trucje of strategie?
10/10/2008 -
Dick Ahles

Search Engine Strategies San Jose 2008 - dag 4
21/08/2008 -
Mark Farragher

Landing page testing and tuning
20/08/2008 -
Mark Farragher

Search Engine Strategies San Jose 2008 - dag 3
20/08/2008 -
Mark Farragher

Search Engine Strategies San Jose 2008 - dag 2
19/08/2008 -
Mark Farragher

Search Engine Strategies San Jose 2008 - dag 1
18/08/2008 -
Mark Farragher
